The role & about the client:
ITS Building People are recruiting on behalf of a successful and well-established contractor with an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality residential and commercial construction projects. This contractor partners with private developers, housing associations, local authorities, and commercial clients. They are now seeking a motivated and detail-focused Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to develop their commercial experience, supporting the QS team in controlling costs and maximising value across a variety of projects.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Support the commercial team with cost management across multiple developments
- Assist in preparing cost plans, budgets, and cash flow forecasts
- Measure works and assist in preparing interim valuations and final accounts
- Assist with procurement of subcontractors and materials, including enquiries and tender analysis
- Support the management of subcontractor accounts, including variations and applications
- Liaise with clients, architects, engineers, and consultants on commercial matters
- Assist in identifying commercial risks and opportunities, supporting cost/value reconciliation (CVR)
- Provide commercial support to project managers and site teams
- Help ensure compliance with contractual obligations and change control processes
- Support pre-construction activities, including cost planning and tender submissions
- Previous experience in an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Trainee QS role, or a relevant degree with site/office experience
- Interest or background in residential and/or commercial construction
- Good understanding of measurement, procurement, and contract administration (JCT/NEC)
- Confident assisting with cost reports, valuations, and final accounts
- Strong communication skills, with a willingness to learn and develop
- Organised, methodical, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Competent IT skills (Excel, cost management software, and document management systems)
- A full UK driving licence (desirable)
