We are currently working with a well-established civil engineering contractor operating within the rail sector, who are looking to appoint an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor looking to develop their commercial career within a technically challenging and fast-paced rail environment. You will work closely with experienced Quantity Surveyors and Commercial Managers, gaining valuable exposure across a range of civil engineering and rail infrastructure projects.
The Role
As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial team in managing the financial and contractual aspects of projects from pre-construction through to completion.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the Quantity Surveyor with the commercial management of rail and civil engineering projects.
- Assisting with valuations, applications for payment and cost reporting.
- Preparing and monitoring project forecasts and budgets.
- Assisting with the preparation and management of subcontractor accounts.
- Supporting the commercial team with variations, compensation events and change control.
- Reviewing subcontractor applications and invoices.
- Assisting with procurement and subcontractor negotiations.
- Maintaining accurate commercial records and project documentation.
- Supporting the preparation of monthly cost/value reports.
- Assisting with the management of risks, opportunities and commercial issues.
- Working closely with project managers, site teams, planners and subcontractors.
- Ensuring contractual and commercial procedures are followed throughout the project lifecycle.
About You
We are looking for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor who is keen to build a long-term career within the rail and civil engineering sector.
You will ideally have:
- Experience within a quantity surveying or commercial role in civil engineering, rail, infrastructure or construction.
- A relevant degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
- A good understanding of construction contracts and commercial processes.
- Experience with valuations, cost control and subcontract management is desirable.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
Salary: Upto £35,000
