An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join a well-established regional main contractor based in the East Midlands.

Our client has built an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality construction projects across the Education, Healthcare, Residential, Commercial, and Public Sector sectors. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured work, they are looking to expand their commercial team with the appointment of an Assistant Quantity Surveyor

The Role

Working alongside experienced Quantity Surveyors and Senior Quantity Surveyors, you will assist with the commercial management of projects from pre-construction through to final account. You will gain hands-on experience across all aspects of quantity surveying while developing your commercial knowledge within a successful regional contractor.

Projects typically range in value from £5m to £20m, providing excellent exposure to a diverse portfolio of construction schemes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the commercial management of construction projects.
  • Support the preparation of project budgets, cost plans, and cost reports.
  • Assist with subcontractor procurement and tender evaluations.
  • Prepare and process subcontractor orders and payment applications.
  • Support the preparation of interim valuations and final accounts.
  • Monitor project costs, variations, and change control.
  • Assist with the administration of JCT and NEC contracts.
  • Help produce monthly commercial reports and cost forecasts.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
  • Work closely with project teams to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Support senior members of the commercial team with day-to-day project delivery.

Education, Skills & Experience

  • Degree qualified - BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying & Construction Management
  • 1 - 3 Years Post Qualification Experience
  • Previous experience within a main contractor or construction environment, either through employment or a placement year.
  • A genuine desire to develop a long-term career in Quantity Surveying.
  • Good understanding of construction methods and commercial processes.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Motivated, eager to learn, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
