Assistant Quantity Surveyor

PW Construction Recruitment

Assistant Quantity Surveyor – Civils & Groundworks

Location: Kent – with travel to sites across Kent & Sussex

PW Construction Recruitment is working with a growing and well-established regional civils and groundworks contractor to recruit an experienced Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their busy commercial team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor who already has practical experience within groundworks or civil engineering and is looking to take the next step in their career, gaining greater responsibility and exposure across a number of live projects.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Commercial Manager, you will assist with the commercial management of multiple live civils and groundworks schemes across Kent and the surrounding areas.

This will be a varied position combining office-based commercial duties with regular site visits. You will undertake site measurements, assess completed works, assist with valuations and applications for payment, process invoices and subcontractor payments, manage variations and maintain accurate commercial records.

You will work closely with Site Managers, Contracts Managers and the wider commercial team, helping to monitor project costs, budgets and commercial performance throughout the lifecycle of each scheme.

As your role develops, you will be encouraged to take increasing commercial responsibility and lead on smaller projects, making this an excellent opportunity for somebody looking to progress towards Quantity Surveyor level.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will have at least three years' experience working within Quantity Surveying or a similar commercial construction role, preferably gained with a civil engineering or groundworks contractor.

You should have practical experience of working on live construction projects and be comfortable undertaking measurements, valuations, subcontractor payments and variations.

You will need to be confident visiting sites, dealing directly with operational teams and managing your own workload across several projects simultaneously.

The successful candidate will be proactive, commercially aware and comfortable taking responsibility. My client is particularly interested in somebody who can hit the ground running within a busy commercial team and add value from day one.

A construction-related degree, HNC or HND would be advantageous but is not essential. Relevant industry experience and a strong practical understanding of civils and groundworks will be equally valued.

A full UK driving licence will be required due to regular travel to project sites.

The Opportunity

You will be joining a growing civils and groundworks business that forms part of an established regional construction group, providing the combination of a busy and expanding specialist contractor with the backing and stability of a larger organisation.

The position offers exposure to multiple live projects rather than being restricted to a single scheme, giving you the opportunity to broaden your commercial experience and develop greater autonomy.

For an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor, there is excellent scope to take ownership of smaller schemes and progress towards a fully-fledged Quantity Surveyor position as the business continues to grow.

Package

The successful candidate will receive a salary of £35,000 to £45,000 per annum, dependent upon experience, plus company package.

If you are currently working as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Junior Quantity Surveyor within groundworks or civil engineering and are looking for greater responsibility, project exposure and career progression, we would be keen to hear from you.
