Assistant Quantity Surveyor – Major Commercial Refurbishment

An exciting opportunity has become available for an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join a well-established main contractor on a flagship commercial refurbishment project in central Bristol.

Working on a high-value, technically complex redevelopment, you'll become part of an experienced commercial team delivering the transformation of a landmark office building into a premium, sustainable workspace. The Role

Reporting to a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you'll provide commercial support throughout the lifecycle of the project, assisting with cost control, procurement, valuations and financial reporting while gaining exposure to every stage of project delivery.

This role offers genuine career development within a collaborative team environment and would suit someone with previous main contractor experience who is keen to progress towards a Quantity Surveyor position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the commercial management of the project from procurement through to final account.
  • Prepare and process subcontractor orders, valuations and payment applications.
  • Support the measurement and valuation of works completed on site.
  • Assist with cost reporting, forecasting and monthly CVRs.
  • Help manage project variations, change control and contractual documentation.
  • Liaise with site teams, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure commercial objectives are achieved.
  • Monitor project costs and identify opportunities to improve value.
  • Support the preparation of final accounts and project close-out documentation.

About You

We're looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Quantity Surveyor who is eager to develop their commercial career within a leading construction business.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience in an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Trainee Quantity Surveyor role with a main contractor or specialist subcontractor.
  • Experience working on commercial construction, refurbishment, fit-out or major building projects.
  • Good understanding of construction processes and commercial procedures.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Confident using Microsoft Excel and other standard Office applications.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

  • HNC, HND or Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline.
  • Knowledge of JCT and/or NEC contracts.
  • Working towards professional accreditation.
