Assistant Shift Operations Technician

Salary: £32,454 - £44,625 (plus benefits)
Hours: 12 hour rotating shift pattern, including days, nights, weekends and public holidays
Location: Cheshire, CW9 7ZR

As an Assistant Shift Operations Technician at FCC Environment, you will support the safe and efficient operation of an Energy from Waste (EfW) facility, including the high-pressure boiler, steam turbine generator and associated plant equipment. Working under the direction of the Shift Manager, you will help maximise plant reliability, flexibility and availability while maintaining high standards of safety, quality and environmental compliance.

This vacancy is for a full-time position working a rotating shift pattern.

What will you be doing?

- Assisting with the safe and efficient operation of the plant during normal running, start-up, shutdown and emergency situations
- Carrying out routine plant inspections, monitoring equipment performance and recording operational data
- Ensuring compliance with environmental permits and reporting any incidents or non-compliance
- Supporting maintenance activities through first-line fault diagnosis and operational assistance
- Completing operational procedures to safely return plant equipment to service following maintenance or outages
- Carrying out simple steam cycle chemistry analysis and implementing corrective actions when required
- Participating in site Health, Safety and Environmental initiatives and procedure reviews
- Writing and updating operational procedures, contributing to continuous improvement activities
- Working closely with colleagues and other departments to maintain effective site operations
- Supporting multi-skilled activities across operational, mechanical and electrical disciplines as training is completed
- Providing on-call support and flexible working arrangements to meet business needs when required
- Operating mobile plant equipment such as forklifts, loading shovels and grab cranes, following training

What are we looking for?

- Experience within an Energy from Waste plant, power station or other heavy industrial process environment
- Engineering qualifications, such as City & Guilds, NVQ or ONC (desirable but not essential)
- Knowledge of control room DCS systems and plant operations
- Ability to read and understand functional diagrams and technical documentation
- Strong understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental requirements
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to work flexibly across a range of operational tasks and responsibilities
- Full UK driving licence
- Self-motivated and able to work independently during dynamic situations
- Strong organisational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Positive, flexible and team-focused attitude with a commitment to personal development
