We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established, high-end main contractor operating across London and the Home Counties. Specialising in bespoke residential and commercial projects up to £5m in value, this is a Director-led business with a strong reputation for quality, precision and exceptional finishes.
As they continue to grow, they are looking for an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team and develop into a fully-fledged QS within a supportive and professional environment.
The Role,
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone in the early stages of their surveying career who is looking to progress within a high-quality main contracting environment. You will work closely with senior members of the commercial team, gaining hands-on exposure to all aspects of quantity surveying across a varied and prestigious project portfolio.
The role will initially be on a freelance basis with a view to going permanent for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting with cost planning, estimating and procurement activities
- Preparing and managing subcontractor packages and orders
- Measuring and valuing works on site
- Assisting with the preparation of valuations, variations and final accounts
- Reviewing and understanding contract documents including NEC and JCT forms of contract
- Supporting the commercial team with monthly cost reporting
- Maintaining accurate commercial records and documentation
- Liaising with site teams, subcontractors and clients as required
Requirements:
- Relevant degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction (HNC/HND considered as a minimum)
- Previous experience working within a main contracting environment
- Working towards or open to pursuing RICS accreditation
- Some exposure to a construction or commercial environment — graduate or placement level considered
- Strong Excel and general IT literacy
- Good understanding of NEC or JCT contracts
- Excellent communication, numeracy and attention to detail
- Ambitious, self-motivated and eager to progress into a full QS role
Package:
- £40,000 – £45,000 per annum (permanent)
- 20 days holiday
