Assistant Water Specialist Opportunity with the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), Supporting Sizewell C
As part of the CWA (Civil Works Alliance), you will support the building of Sizewell C. Sizewell C will be a 3.2-gigawatt power station generating low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes and will play a key role in our energy future, supplying reliable, clean electricity for at least 60 years. This role will be within the Enabling and Earthwork Section.

The Civil Works Alliance is looking for an Assistant Water Specialist to join the team delivering the Sizewell C Project. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or early-career hydrologist to gain hands-on experience working alongside industry experts on a nationally significant project.
As an Assistant Water Specialist, you will support the delivery of hydrology and water management activities across the project. Working closely with the ESG Water Lead and wider multidisciplinary teams, you will help ensure compliance with environmental permits, water quality objectives, and sustainable water management requirements.
You will work across both the Main Construction Area and Temporary Construction Areas, supporting the project's environmental commitments and helping to protect local water resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support hydrological assessments and technical reviews for construction activities.
- Assist with surface water drainage and flood risk evaluations.
- Carry out site inspections and water monitoring activities.
- Support compliance with environmental permits and pollution prevention measures.
- Collect, analyse and interpret hydrological and environmental data.
- Assist with the implementation of sustainable water management solutions.
- Work collaboratively with engineers, environmental specialists and construction teams.
- Contribute to environmental reporting and regulatory engagement where required.
What are we looking for?
We're looking for someone who is enthusiastic, eager to learn and passionate about the environment.
Essential- Degree in Hydrology, Environmental Engineering, Water Management, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- Understanding of hydrological and hydraulic principles.
- Basic knowledge of flood risk management.
- Understanding of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), including design principles and pollution control benefits.
- Post-graduate experience in hydrology, flood risk, or surface water management.
- Experience of water monitoring programmes.
- Knowledge of water efficiency and water-saving measures.
