A successful multidisciplinary architectural practice is looking to appoint an experienced Building Regulations Principal Designer to lead and grow its Manchester building safety offering.
The practice already has a strong technical team and an established workload across residential, healthcare, refurbishment and remediation projects. It is now seeking a specialist who can take ownership of the Principal Designer function and develop it into a standalone service.
This position would suit an ambitious Principal Designer, Associate or Associate Director looking for greater autonomy and the opportunity to build a team.
The Associate Building Regulations Principal Designer's Role
The Associate Building Regulations Principal Designer will provide technical leadership across the practice while managing a portfolio of complex and higher-risk building projects.
You will be responsible for developing compliance strategies, advising clients and coordinating design information through the relevant regulatory gateways.
The role will include:
- Acting as Building Regulations Principal Designer
- Leading compliance on higher-risk building projects
- Advising clients on Building Safety Act responsibilities
- Leading Gateway applications and regulatory submissions
- Coordinating golden thread information
- Reviewing multidisciplinary design information
- Identifying and managing compliance risks
- Developing internal procedures, templates and reporting tools
- Supporting bids, frameworks and client presentations
- Mentoring architects and technical professionals
- Helping secure external Principal Designer appointments
- Supporting the future growth of a specialist team
The Associate Building Regulations Principal Designer
The successful Associate Building Regulations Principal Designer will have:
- Demonstrable higher-risk building experience
- A detailed understanding of the Building Safety Act
- Experience delivering Building Regulations Principal Designer duties
- A background in architecture, building control, surveying or design compliance
- Strong technical and client-facing skills
- Experience supporting or leading junior colleagues
- An interest in business development and service growth
