Associate Geotechnical Tailings Engineer - London
Salary: £70,000 - £90,000 + Benefits

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Associate Geotechnical Tailings Engineer to join a leading international engineering consultancy in London. This role is ideal for an experienced geotechnical professional looking to take on a technical leadership position, delivering major mining and tailings projects across the UK and internationally.

You will play a key role in the design and assessment of tailings storage facilities, mine waste infrastructure and water retaining structures, working alongside multidisciplinary teams on complex and high-profile projects. This position offers the opportunity to lead projects, mentor engineers and contribute to the continued growth of an established dams and tailings team.

The role will involve:

  • Leading the design and assessment of tailings storage facilities and associated geotechnical infrastructure
  • Delivering geotechnical analysis including slope stability, seepage, foundation and earthworks design
  • Managing projects from feasibility studies through to detailed design and construction support
  • Producing high-quality technical reports, design documentation and engineering calculations
  • Reviewing ground investigation data and developing geotechnical models
  • Providing technical leadership and mentoring junior engineers
  • Managing client relationships and supporting business development activities
  • Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across international mining projects
  • Undertaking occasional site visits and inspections where required

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or a related discipline
  • Chartered Engineer status (or be working towards chartership)
  • Extensive experience in geotechnical engineering, ideally with exposure to tailings facilities, dams or mining infrastructure
  • Strong knowledge of geotechnical design principles, including slope stability, seepage and earthworks
  • Experience using industry-standard software such as GeoStudio (Slope/W, Seep/W), PLAXIS or similar
  • Willingness to travel for project work when required
