About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Attendance Officer to join our thriving Secondary Girls' School in Haringey. This is a vital role within the school, helping to improve attendance, support student welfare, and ensure accurate attendance records are maintained.The successful candidate will have previous school-based attendance experience and be confident using SIMS to manage attendance data, produce reports, and monitor student attendance patterns.This position would suit a proactive individual with excellent communication skills who is passionate about supporting young people to achieve their full potential through excellent attendance and punctuality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor daily student attendance and punctuality using SIMS.
  • Follow up on unexplained absences and lateness with parents/carers.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Produce weekly, monthly and termly attendance reports for senior leaders.
  • Identify attendance concerns and work closely with pastoral staff to support students.
  • Record and manage attendance interventions and support plans.
  • Liaise with parents, external agencies and Education Welfare Officers where necessary.
  • Support safeguarding procedures by reporting attendance concerns promptly.
  • Manage attendance-related correspondence, meetings and documentation.
  • Provide administrative support relating to attendance and pupil welfare.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Previous experience working as an Attendance Officer within a school environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of SIMS.
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills.
  • Experience producing attendance reports and analysing attendance data.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with parents and students.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Understanding of attendance legislation and safeguarding responsibilities.

Desirable

  • Experience working within a secondary school setting.
  • Knowledge of attendance interventions and strategies to improve attendance.
  • Experience working with vulnerable students and families.
