A well-established accountancy practice is looking for an experienced Audit Manager, or an ambitious Assistant Manager ready to take the next step, to take responsibility for a varied portfolio of clients and lead a growing audit team.

This is a hands-off management position, giving you the opportunity to focus on planning, reviewing and delivering high-quality audits while developing the people around you. You will work closely with clients and Partners, with the autonomy to manage your portfolio and play an important role in the continued development of the team.

Audit Manager – About The Role

The role will focus on managing the audit process and leading the team, with responsibility for ensuring assignments are delivered efficiently, within budget and to a high standard. You will oversee audits from initial planning through to completion, review and sign off audit files, and act as the main point of contact for clients.

You will also play an important role in developing the wider audit team, providing guidance and training to junior staff while working closely with Partners on more complex assignments. Key responsibilities:

  • Managing a portfolio of audit clients
  • Planning audits, including agreeing budgets, timescales and resource requirements
  • Overseeing audits from planning through to completion
  • Reviewing and signing off completed audit files
  • Reviewing work completed by the audit team and providing constructive feedback
  • Managing and monitoring audit budgets and ensuring assignments remain on track
  • Acting as the lead point of contact for clients throughout the audit process
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Managing, mentoring and developing junior members of the audit team
  • Providing training and technical guidance to Audit Seniors and junior staff
  • Delegating work effectively across the team
  • Supporting Partners with more complex and significant assignments
  • Identifying and resolving issues arising during audits
  • Ensuring audits are completed to the required professional and technical standards
  • Contributing to the continued development of the audit team and wider practice

The successful Audit Manager will have:

  • ACA or ACCA qualified
  • Strong UK accountancy practice experience
  • Previous experience managing audit assignments and teams, or operating at Assistant Manager level with the ambition to step up
  • Strong technical knowledge across audit
  • Experience reviewing audit files and working papers
  • Good understanding of audit planning, budgeting and completion
  • Strong client management and communication skills
  • Experience mentoring and developing junior team members
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines
  • A confident and proactive approach
  • Comfortable working closely with Partners and senior stakeholders
  • Keen to progress their career within a growing practice
