Our Birmingham based client originated more than half a century ago and are recognised as a market leader in their niche sector for supply to a diverse range of clients and industry sectors throughout the UK. As a result of continued success and an ongoing program of strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced Automated Paint Technician with proven ABB robot systems experience to complement their established and highly professional production team and support, maintain and improve the automated paint operation.
Essential for the position is demonstrable hands-on experience with ABB IRB 5510 paint robots along with strong practical experience in paint mixing, preparation and paint process control.
Core duties for this varied and challenging Automated Paint Technician role will include (but not be limited to):
- Operate, maintain and support ABB IRB 5510 automated paint robots.
- Carry out robot program adjustments and optimisation to improve paint coverage, quality and cycle time.
- Mix and prepare paints accurately to the required specifications and ratios.
- Measure and adjust paint viscosity where required.
- Prepare paints, thinners, hardeners and other materials in line with technical specifications.
- Ensure correct paint batches, colours and materials are used for production.
- Troubleshoot paint mixing, application and robotic process issues.
- Identify and resolve paint quality problems including coverage, colour, film build, appearance, runs and consistency.
- Monitor and adjust paint application parameters to maintain a stable process.
- Support colour changes, paint line changeovers and cleaning/flushing activities.
- Carry out preventative maintenance and basic robotic system checks.
- Assist with new product introduction and development of paint programs for new components.
- Adjust robot paths, speeds, spray parameters and application settings where required.
- Work closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Production and Quality teams to resolve recurring issues and support C.I activities aimed at reducing paint waste, downtime and defects, whilst ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with HSE requirements.
- Maintain appropriate technical documentation, robot programs and paint process settings.
In addition to the essential hands-on ABB IRB 5510 paint robot experience, it is envisaged the successful Automated Paint Technician will demonstrate strong paint mixing and paint preparation experience with at least 3 years' experience gained working within an automated industrial paint environment.
You will be skilled in fault-finding on automated paint and robotic equipment with a good understanding of robotic paint application and spray processes with the ability to make robot program and process adjustments in a fast-paced environment, with previous knowledge or experience of ABB TR proving distinctly advantageous andhavign worked previously as an Automated Paint Technician in a similar fast paced environment.
