A small, rapidly growing specialist in vehicle access automation is looking for an experienced Automatic Gates & Barriers Engineer.
You’ll work on a varied mix of planned maintenance, breakdowns, upgrades and installations across the South East. Alongside solving technical problems on site, you’ll help customers improve the safety and reliability of their systems.

What you’ll be doing

Maintaining, repairing and installing automated swing and sliding gates and vehicle barriers.

Diagnosing faults with motors, gearboxes, hydraulic operators, control panels and associated wiring.

Setting gate travel limits, adjusting operators and commissioning automation equipment.

Testing photocells, safety edges, vehicle detection loops and other protective devices.

Carrying out gate safety assessments and force testing where applicable, recording results and identifying necessary improvements.

Checking hinges, rollers, tracks, fixings and mechanical stops for wear, damage and safe operation.

Investigating faults involving intercoms, access control and vehicle entry interfaces.

Completing service reports, documenting remedial requirements and providing clear customer handovers.
What you’ll bring
-
Proven experience working on automatic gates and vehicle barriers.

Strong electrical and mechanical diagnostic skills.

Recognised automated gate safety training, such as the DHF Level 2 Award in Automated Gate & Traffic Barrier Safety, or equivalent relevant training.

Practical knowledge of gate safety, risk assessment, protective devices and safe commissioning.

Confidence reading wiring diagrams and programming gate and barrier control systems.

A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the region.

The ability to organise your work and communicate professionally with customers.
Useful additional experience and qualifications

Relevant NVQ Level 2 or an electrical/mechanical engineering qualification.

Manufacturer training on gate automation and barrier equipment.
-
Appropriate CSCS/ECS card.

Experience in force testing and recording safety test results.

Experience with hydraulic systems, intercoms, access control or ANPR interfaces.

An 18th Edition qualification where supported by relevant electrical installation experience.
