Baler Operative
Hourly Rate – £13.90
Hours – Average of 40 hours per week (rotating 12-hour shift pattern (days and nights))
Location & Postcode – Hartlepool, TS25 1NS
As a Baler Operative at FCC Environment, you will safely operate and maintain baling equipment used in the processing of recyclable materials. You will ensure materials are baled to specification while maintaining high standards of health, safety, environmental compliance and quality.

What will you be doing?
- Maintain a safe working environment and follow all health and safety procedures
- Operate waste and recycling balers safely and efficiently
- Process recyclable materials, including cardboard, paper, plastics, metals and other designated waste streams
- Monitor baler performance and respond appropriately to blockages, alarms and operational issues
- Ensure bales are produced to the required weight, size and quality standards
- Wire, strap and eject bales in accordance with site procedures
- Carry out routine cleaning and housekeeping of the baler and surrounding work areas
- Perform daily inspections and safety checks
- Report equipment defects, damage and operational issues promptly
- Assist with sorting and segregation activities when required
What are we looking for?
- Previous experience operating machinery in an industrial, manufacturing, recycling or waste environment
- Good understanding of workplace health and safety requirements
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Basic understanding of recyclable materials
- Strong attention to detail and a safety-conscious approach
- Reliable, punctual and hardworking
- Mobile plant qualifications, such as FLT, Telehandler or Loading Shovel, are desirable
