Role Overview
Optegra is recruiting a bank registered nurse to join our eye hospital in Guildford GU2. Optegra is one of the UK's leading specialist ophthalmology providers, treating patients across cataract, glaucoma, refractive and medical retina pathways. Bank registered nurse role offers flexible shifts and the opportunity to build specialist eye care experience across diagnostics, pre-operative assessment and theatre support.
Ophthalmology experience is desirable but not essential — full training is provided.

About the Opportunity
This is a strong move for an experienced Registered General Nurse who wants to specialise in eye care. At Optegra you will work alongside consultant ophthalmic surgeons and a supportive multi-disciplinary team, supporting patients through cataract surgery, glaucoma, refractive treatment and medical retina pathways.
As an Ophthalmic Nurse at Optegra you will see patients through the whole journey — diagnostics, pre-assessment, surgery day and post-operative care — rather than one narrow stage of it.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality nursing care across diagnostic, pre-operative, peri-operative and post-operative pathways
- Carry out pre-operative assessments and diagnostic testing
- Administer medicines and treatments in line with NMC standards
- Give clear pre- and post-operative instructions to patients and carers
- Assist with minor operations and support the theatre team
- Provide initial emergency care within your level of competency
- Maintain accurate, legible clinical documentation to NMC standards
- Follow infection prevention, decontamination and clinical governance standards
- Mentor and support junior team members
Skills and Experience Required
Essential
- Registered General Nurse with current NMC registration
- Minimum one year post-qualification nursing experience
- Strong communication skills and a commitment to high-quality patient care
- Awareness of the NMC Professional Code of Conduct and the role of the CQC
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Desirable
- Previous experience in Ophthalmology, Theatre, General Surgery or Outpatients
You will ideally be someone who enjoys patient contact, works well in a team and stays calm in a busy clinical environment.
