An innovative engineering company developing advanced battery systems for automotive, defence, marine and industrial applications is looking to appoint a Battery Pack Principal Design Engineer to join its growing engineering team.
 
This is an exciting opportunity to take technical ownership of the mechanical design and packaging of next-generation battery modules and battery packs, working on cutting-edge electrification programmes from concept through to production.
 
Working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, you will collaborate with systems, thermal, electronics and electrical engineers to develop robust, manufacturable and high-performance battery pack solutions for a diverse range of customer applications.
 
The Role
  • Lead the mechanical design of battery modules and battery packs.
  • Develop innovative packaging solutions for battery cells, HV/LV electrical components, harnesses and cooling systems.
  • Produce detailed 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings.
  • Design sheet metal, machined, moulded and additive manufactured components.
  • Integrate thermal management solutions including liquid cooling systems.
  • Support Design for Manufacture (DfM) and Design for Assembly (DfA) activities.
  • Work closely with suppliers, manufacturing partners and internal engineering teams throughout product development.
  • Manage engineering BOMs, product structures and engineering change processes.
  • Provide technical leadership and support the successful delivery of multiple engineering programmes.
About You
 
You will be an experienced mechanical design engineer with a strong background in battery pack development and electro-mechanical packaging.
 
You'll have:
  • Degree in Mechanical, Automotive or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Significant experience designing battery modules and battery packs.
  • Strong 3D CAD capability using SolidWorks, CATIA or Siemens NX.
  • Experience integrating battery cells, electrical components and cooling systems into complex assemblies.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, GD&T, tolerance analysis and Design for Manufacture principles.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Experience within automotive, motorsport, aerospace, defence, marine, rail or energy storage industries.
