Long Term Futures is seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Mentor to join a supportive secondary school in Telford. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with pupils within the school's inclusion provision, supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes.

This role is ideal for someone who is calm, patient, and passionate about helping young people succeed. You'll play a key role in promoting positive behaviour, improving engagement, and supporting pupils to successfully access mainstream education.



About the Role

Working closely with teaching staff, the SENCO, pastoral teams, and senior leaders, your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Providing targeted 1:1 and small group support for pupils within the school's inclusion provision
  • Supporting pupils with SEMH and SEND to engage positively with learning and school life
  • Helping pupils develop strategies to regulate emotions and manage behaviour effectively
  • Building strong, trusting relationships while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries
  • Supporting pupils during reintegration into mainstream lessons where appropriate
  • Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour using restorative and positive behaviour management strategies
  • Monitoring pupil progress, attendance, and behaviour, providing regular feedback to relevant staff
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for pupils


Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Experience working with secondary-aged pupils in a school, alternative provision, youth work, or similar setting
  • A good understanding of SEMH, Autism (ASC), ADHD, and other Special Educational Needs
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
  • Patient, resilient, and able to remain calm under pressure
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Able to establish trust while maintaining professionalism and high expectations
  • Passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers and reach their potential
