Not every young person fits into mainstream education and that's where you come in. Some pupils need extra patience. Some need structure. Others simply need one person who doesn't give up on them.
A specialist SEN school in Burnley is looking for a Behaviour Mentor / SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH and behavioural needs. This isn't just a classroom support role it's about building trust, creating consistency and helping young people feel safe enough to learn.
The school has a genuinely supportive team, ongoing SEN training and staff who work together to make a difference every day. There are also weekly extracurricular trips and enrichment activities, giving pupils opportunities to build confidence both inside and outside the classroom.
You do not need previous school experience to be considered.

What You'll Be Doing
- Supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN), Autism, ADHD and SEMH
- Working as a Behaviour Mentor, SEN Teaching Assistant and Learning Support Assistant
- Providing 1:1 support and small group interventions
- Helping pupils regulate emotions and manage challenging behaviour
- Encouraging engagement, independence and positive routines
- Building strong relationships with pupils who need consistency and encouragement
- Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff
- Supporting learning both inside and outside the classroom
What the School Is Looking For
- Experience supporting children or adults with behavioural or additional needs
- A calm, patient and resilient approach
- Someone who can use their initiative and adapt to different situations
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Experience as a Behaviour Mentor, Teaching Assistant, Support Worker or Care Worker is desirable
- A genuine passion for helping young people succeed
