Behaviour Teaching Assistant – SEMH (KS3 & KS4)

We are currently seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH provision in Blackburn, working with pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4. This is a full-time position starting in September, initially on a temporary basis with the opportunity to become permanent.

The Role
You will support students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to access learning, regulate behaviour, and develop positive relationships. Working closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams, you will play a key role in promoting a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs
  • Support behaviour management strategies in line with school policies
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement
  • Assist with the delivery of lessons and adapted learning activities
  • Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social development
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external agencies where required

Requirements

  • Minimum Level 3 qualification (or above) in a relevant field
  • A degree is desirable (any subject considered)
  • Previous experience working with children or young people, ideally within an SEMH or SEN setting
  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • A proactive, patient and resilient approach
  • Commitment to safeguarding and supporting vulnerable learners
