£450 – £550 a year

Covent Garden · Contract

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced BI Consultant to support the adoption and effective use of applications available through the NHS Federated Data Platform (FDP).

The role will focus on working closely with NHS provider organisations to review existing local reporting processes, assess current BI solutions and identify opportunities to utilise existing FDP applications to improve operational reporting and reduce duplication across local BI teams.

The successful candidate will combine strong technical BI and reporting experience with excellent stakeholder engagement, business analysis and change management skills. A key part of the role will involve understanding how reporting is currently delivered within NHS Trusts, assessing the functionality and suitability of FDP applications and supporting their adoption where they can provide measurable operational benefits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review existing local BI reporting processes, dashboards and analytical solutions across NHS provider organisations.

  • Assess the functionality of FDP applications against existing local reporting requirements, identifying opportunities to replace, consolidate or streamline reporting.

  • Engage with BI teams, clinical stakeholders and operational managers to understand current reporting arrangements, challenges and requirements.

  • Undertake SQL-based analysis and data interrogation to understand existing reporting outputs, underlying datasets and data flows.

  • Identify opportunities to reduce duplication, manual reporting activities and the operational burden on local BI teams.

  • Support the adoption of FDP applications, including stakeholder engagement, requirements gathering and change management activities.

  • Undertake gap analysis between existing local reporting solutions and functionality available within FDP applications.

  • Support benefits identification and realisation, demonstrating improvements in reporting efficiency, consistency and operational insight.

  • Produce clear recommendations, documentation and progress updates for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Essential Experience

  • Strong NHS provider experience, preferably within an acute NHS Trust, with a detailed understanding of how BI and reporting teams operate.

  • Hands-on experience with SQL, data warehousing, Power BI and operational reporting.

  • Experience analysing existing reporting solutions, data flows and reporting requirements.

  • Strong business analysis skills, including requirements gathering, gap analysis and process improvement.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work across BI, clinical, operational and senior management teams.

  • Experience supporting application implementation, adoption or wider digital transformation.

  • Understanding of benefits realisation, particularly identifying efficiencies and reducing manual processes.

  • Ability to work independently across multiple workstreams and translate technical findings into practical recommendations.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous exposure to the NHS Federated Data Platform (FDP) and its applications.

  • Experience supporting NHS reporting transformation or reporting rationalisation programmes.

  • Knowledge of NHS operational datasets, patient pathways and performance reporting.

  • Experience supporting organisational change, user adoption and benefits tracking.

  • Familiarity with NHS data architecture, reporting platforms and wider digital transformation programmes.

Ideal Candidate

We are particularly interested in individuals who have worked directly within NHS provider BI teams and understand both the technical complexities of local reporting and the operational requirements behind it.

This is not a purely technical development role. The successful candidate must be comfortable interrogating SQL and existing reporting solutions while also engaging with stakeholders, assessing application capabilities and supporting the changes required to adopt new reporting approaches.

The ability to bridge the gap between technical BI teams, operational stakeholders and FDP application functionality will be central to delivering success in this role.
