Introduction

Acorn by Synergie is recruiting on behalf of our client for a Biomedical Scientist (Band 5/6) to join their laboratory team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist to contribute to the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services and support excellent patient care.

As part of the laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing a range of analytical tests and investigations on patient samples. You will ensure accurate and timely results that directly support clinical decision-making and patient outcomes.



Key Duties

  • Perform analytical testing, validation and processing of patient samples.

  • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.

  • Process urgent, routine and specialist investigations within agreed turnaround times.

  • Review and authorise results in line with SOPs, competency requirements and quality standards.

  • Participate in Internal Quality Control (IQC) and External Quality Assessment (EQA) programmes.

  • Maintain compliance with ISO 15189, UKAS and laboratory quality standards.

  • Ensure accurate record-keeping and full sample traceability.

  • Collaborate effectively with clinicians, nurses and multidisciplinary teams to support patient care.



Requirements

  • Degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent recognised qualification.

  • Analyser installation/validation experience with Beckman Coulter DXI9000 or equivalent.

  • HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist.

  • IBMS-accredited degree.

  • Experience working within a clinical pathology or diagnostic laboratory.

  • Knowledge of laboratory testing processes and quality standards.

  • Experience using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).

  • Understanding of laboratory quality management systems and accreditation requirements.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Ability to prioritise workload effectively in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Good IT and data management capabilities.
