Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Biomedical Scientist in Histopathology at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust to join the Histopathology Department at Queens Medical Centre. You will be responsible for carrying out the examination of pathological samples using a range of technologies and ensuring accurate results are reported or presented appropriately. You will support the delivery of a quality-driven, cost-effective and patient-focused service, working as part of the departmental team in line with the Trusts objectives and professional standards. You will be based at one campus but may be required to work across both Queens Medical Centre (QMC) and Nottingham City Hospital (NCH), depending on service requirements.

Job Role & Responsibilities

  • To carry out laboratory analyses under the direction of senior Biomedical Scientist staff, ensuring results are reported accurately and appropriate records and documentation are completed and maintained.
  • To participate in departmental rosters as required and undertake duties according to the operational requirements of the laboratory, including working flexibly when necessary.
  • To perform quality control procedures and review quality control results to identify poor performance, investigating issues and taking appropriate corrective action where required.
  • To participate in the operation and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment, reporting any faults or issues appropriately to support the safe and effective functioning of equipment.
  • To maintain appropriate laboratory supplies by monitoring and replenishing consumables, reagents and equipment, while organising personal work activities to make effective use of available time and resources.
  • To ensure competent use of computerised data management systems and maintain compliance with laboratory policies, Standard Operating Procedures, safety requirements, statutory obligations, patient confidentiality and data protection legislation.

Person Specifications & Qualifications

  • HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist.
  • Relevant Biomedical Science qualification.
  • Experience in Histopathology.
  • Knowledge of laboratory quality control procedures.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
