The Role
We are looking for a Bodyshop First Line Manager / Bodyshop Supervisor to join a busy BMW VDC bodyshop operation in Thorne.
This is a leadership role where you will support the day-to-day running of the Bodyshop, Panel Shop and Rapid Repair areas. You will be responsible for managing workflow, controlling Work in Progress (WIP), allocating repairs, monitoring repair progress and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.
Working closely with the Bodyshop Manager, Workshop Controllers, Workshop Seniors and Technicians, you will help maximise productivity, maintain repair throughput, resolve operational issues and ensure customer expectations and business targets are achieved.
This role would suit someone with strong bodyshop, workshop control or supervisory experience who enjoys leading people, organising repair flow and driving performance in a fast-paced automotive environment.
Key Responsibilities

Supervise daily operations across the Bodyshop, Panel Shop and Rapid Repair areas.

Coordinate workflow, allocate repairs and manage WIP to ensure vehicles progress in line with completion targets.

Monitor productivity, efficiency, utilisation, attendance, timekeeping and overall team performance.

Ensure all repairs are completed in line with BMW repair methods, manufacturer standards, company procedures and quality requirements.

Review job cards, repair documentation, warranty records, operational reports and workshop planning.

Carry out quality checks, audits and inspections to maintain high standards of workmanship.

Act as a first point of escalation for workshop issues, repair delays and customer-related queries.

Liaise with technicians, estimators, parts, customer service teams and management to maintain smooth communication and workflow.

Lead daily briefings, communicate priorities and support a positive, accountable team culture.

Support performance reviews, return-to-work interviews, probation reviews, disciplinary processes, recruitment, onboarding and training where required.

Promote continuous improvement, health and safety, housekeeping standards and correct use of workshop equipment.

Ensure compliance with company policies, SOPs, BMW site standards, ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 requirements.
Skills & Experience

Previous experience within an automotive bodyshop, accident repair or vehicle repair environment.

Experience in a supervisory, team leader, workshop controller or bodyshop coordination role.

Strong understanding of bodyshop processes, vehicle repair methods and manufacturer repair standards.

Ability to manage WIP, prioritise workloads and maintain workshop productivity.

Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach and develop a team.

Excellent planning, organisation, communication and problem-solving skills.

Confident making operational decisions in a fast-paced workshop environment.

High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

Good IT skills, including bodyshop management systems and Microsoft Office.

Understanding of KPIs, productivity, efficiency, utilisation and performance data.

Good understanding of health and safety requirements within a bodyshop environment.
