We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Workshop Manager to lead the daily workshop operation of a busy aftersales department. This is an excellent opportunity for a proven automotive professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about developing technicians, improving productivity, and delivering outstanding customer satisfaction.
Working closely with the Service Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the workshop operates efficiently, safely, and profitably while maintaining the highest standards of quality and customer care.
Key Responsibilities
Workshop Performance & Productivity
- Support planning and control workshop loading to maximise technician efficiency and utilisation.
- Monitor productivity, efficiency and labour sales performance against departmental targets.
- Ensure work is allocated effectively based on technician skill levels and development needs.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance workshop performance and throughput.
Technician Development
- Coach, mentor and support technicians to achieve their full potential.
- Identify training needs and create development plans to improve technical capability.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback.
- Foster a positive, high-performance team culture focused on quality and accountability.
Customer Satisfaction
- Ensure all repair and maintenance work is completed right first time.
- Support service advisors in resolving customer concerns and technical queries.
- Monitor repair quality and turnaround times to deliver an exceptional customer experience.
- Work proactively to achieve and exceed customer satisfaction targets.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Maintain a safe and compliant workshop environment at all times.
- Ensure all health and safety policies, procedures and manufacturer standards are followed.
- Conduct regular workshop inspections and risk assessments.
- Promote a culture where safety is everyone's responsibility.
Commercial Management
- Support the achievement of departmental profitability targets.
- Minimise rework, warranty costs and lost productivity.
- Monitor workshop performance metrics and implement actions to address variances.
- Work collaboratively with the wider aftersales team to maximise revenue opportunities.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience as a Workshop Controller, Senior Technician, Workshop Manager or similar automotive leadership role.
- Strong technical automotive knowledge gained within a franchised retailer or high-volume workshop environment.
- Proven track record of improving technician productivity and workshop performance.
- Experience coaching and developing teams.
- Excellent organisational and leadership skills.
- Strong customer focus with a commitment to delivering exceptional service.
- Good understanding of workshop health and safety requirements.
- Ability to work under pressure while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency.
