Better homes. Stronger communities. More community-led housing

For over 50 years, CDS has worked alongside residents, housing co-operatives and communities because we believe people should have greater influence over the places they call home.

We're looking to appoint up to three new Board colleagues to help shape our strategy, strengthen our governance and support the future of community-led housing.

The roles

We're recruiting for:

  • Senior Independent Director – supporting excellent governance and Board leadership.
  • Chair of Services Committee – overseeing our landlord and client services, safety, performance continuous improvement and our work to increase community led housing.
  • Board Member – contributing to the strategic leadership and governance of CDS.

Who we're looking for

We're looking for people with strategic judgement, sound values and a commitment to our social purpose. You may already have Board experience or have developed equivalent leadership through your professional or public service career.

We're most interested in experience in governance, AI/cybersecurity/IT, law, customer service, communications or housing—but we're equally interested in the different perspectives you can bring.

A Board strengthened by different perspectives

We believe better decisions are made when Boards reflect a broad range of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.

We're committed to broadening the diversity of our Board and particularly encourage applications from people from Black, Asian and other minority ethnic communities, disabled people, women and LGBTQ+ people, especially those interested in Board leadership roles. We also value lived experience alongside professional expertise and will make needed reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process.

The appointment – Board appointments are generally a three-year term that can be renewed for a total maximum of six years.
