ALF Recruit has been engaged by a well-established independent accountancy practice near Chorley to recruit a Bookkeeper.

The practice has grown to the point where bookkeeping is now a job in its own right.  They want someone to take it on, run with it and make it their own.  With Making Tax Digital for Income Tax now live and widening again from April 2027, this is a real chance to become the go-to person on MTD and grow the service as the client base grows.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐥𝐥 𝐠𝐞𝐭

• £28,000 to £32,000 depending on experience (pro rata for part time)

• Full time or part time from 30 hours a week, with hours that can be worked flexibly

• Study support towards AAT or ACCA considered for the right person

• 23 to 25 days holiday plus bank holidays

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠

• Bookkeeping for a varied portfolio of small business and sole trader clients, all on Xero

• Preparing and submitting VAT returns under MTD

• Becoming the MTD lead, keeping clients on track with digital records and quarterly updates

• Supporting with payroll and simple self-assessment returns where you have the experience

• Being the main point of contact for clients on bookkeeping and VAT queries

• Spotting where clients need more support and helping grow the service

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞'𝐫𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫

• Strong, hands-on Xero experience (essential)

• Bookkeeping and VAT return experience, from practice or industry

• A good grasp of MTD, or a real appetite to become the expert in it

• Payroll and/or self-assessment experience a bonus

• AAT qualified or studying is welcome, though the right experience counts just as much

• Office based near Chorley, so a realistic commute from Leyland, Preston, Wigan or Bolton

• Someone who wants to take ownership and grow with the business
