Bookkeeper - Sage / CIS / VAT

The Role

Our client is a well-established, family-run accountancy practice in Aylesbury with a strong local reputation and a friendly, collaborative team.

They are looking for an experienced Bookkeeper - Sage / CIS / VAT to manage bookkeeping and accounting support for a varied portfolio of clients. You’ll take ownership of your workload while working closely with accountants and fellow bookkeepers to maintain accurate records and meet client deadlines.

This is a varied role covering Sage bookkeeping, VAT returns, CIS, reconciliations, payroll support and year-end preparation.

Responsibilities

• Complete day-to-day bookkeeping using Sage
• Prepare and submit VAT returns
• Manage Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) payments
• Complete bank and control account reconciliations
• Reconcile sales ledger, purchase ledger, VAT and PAYE accounts
• Liaise directly with clients to resolve bookkeeping queries
• Assist with client payroll processing
• Prepare year-end information for external accountants
• Resolve year-end queries and post journals
• Support general bookkeeping and administrative duties

Requirements

• Strong practical experience using Sage
• Previous experience managing CIS payments
• Experience preparing and submitting VAT returns
• Good understanding of double-entry bookkeeping
• Confident completing bank and control account reconciliations
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Comfortable dealing directly with clients
• Able to manage multiple deadlines and client workloads

Experience using Dext or Hubdoc would be advantageous but is not essential.

Candidates from accountancy practices, bookkeeping bureaux, outsourced finance teams or other multi-client environments are particularly relevant. Experience supporting construction-sector clients operating under CIS would also transfer well.
