As BPX continues to grow, we are looking to recruit a Branch Manager to lead the team at our Sunderland branch. The Sunderland team is responsible for all sales and operational activities, including serving existing customers. The Branch Manager will support the Regional Operations Manager with the growth and development of BPX Sunderland. This is a full-time, permanent position based at our Sunderland branch (SR5 2BX).

The Opportunity:

The role purpose is to lead and develop a high-performing branch operation, delivering profitable sales growth, exceptional customer experience, and operational excellence across all customer channels. The Branch Manager is responsible for setting branch strategy, driving commercial performance, managing branch operations, and creating an engaged team culture while ensuring company policies, service standards, and compliance requirements are consistently achieved.

 

The main duties will include:

  • Lead, coach and develop branch teams to achieve individual, branch, regional and company objectives.
  • Create and implement branch business plans, objectives and performance measures to deliver sustainable and profitable growth.
  • Drive sales performance, customer retention and loyalty across all branch revenue streams.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders to maximise commercial opportunities and improve customer outcomes.
  • Ensure quotations, orders and customer enquiries are processed accurately and within agreed service levels.
  • Manage branch operations, including stock control, inventory optimisation, warehouse efficiency and logistics performance.
  • Monitor branch performance through KPI reporting, taking corrective action to improve service, productivity and profitability.
  • Manage branch budgets and operating costs to maximise profitability and ensure effective resource allocation.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, health and safety requirements, quality standards and regulatory obligations.
  • Deliver continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational effectiveness, customer experience and employee engagement.
  • Collaborate with regional and national sales teams, marketing, finance, customer service and operational functions to support wider business objectives.
  • Manage workforce planning, recruitment, training, development and performance management activities within the branch.
  • Act as a branch ambassador, representing the business at customer, supplier and industry events where required.
  • Commitment to sustainability by adhering to environmental management procedures, promoting pollution prevention, ensuring compliance with environmental requirements, and contributing to the achievement of the company’s environmental objectives and long-term carbon neutrality goals.

 

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Experience leading and managing teams, including coaching, mentoring and performance management.
  • Experience operating within a branch, sales, customer service or operational management environment.
  • Demonstrable experience driving sales growth, customer retention and profitability.
  • Experience managing budgets, operational performance, risk and compliance.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels.
  • Commercially minded with sound decision-making and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience implementing continuous improvement initiatives and managing change.
  • Strong customer relationship management skills with a focus on service excellence.
  • Ability to analyse performance data and implement business improvement plans.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and business systems, including CRM and stock management systems.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and leadership skills.

 

Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Experience within industrial distribution, engineering, automation, manufacturing or a related technical sector.
  • Programme or project management experience.
  • Six Sigma Yellow Belt or Green Belt qualification.
  • Experience leading within a matrix or complex organisational structure.
  • Experience introducing new service propositions or operational capabilities.
  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience.
