Fire Door Threshold / Floor Void Works
Location: Bristol – occupied residential block of flats
Start Date: 28 September

Scope of Works
A qualified and experienced bricklayer is required to undertake remedial blockwork and associated works at an existing fire door threshold.

Works include:

• Carefully remove the existing liftable floor plate at the fire door threshold.
• Prepare the existing opening to receive a new concrete lintel.
• Supply and install an approximately 850mm x 350mm concrete lintel, suitably bedded onto the existing blockwork wall.
• Provide suitable additional support to the lintel as required.
• Complete blockwork infill to the existing void, up to the underside of the concrete lintel.
• Work carefully around the existing cables and services within the void.
• Assist with associated fire-stopping around existing service penetrations.
• Make good surrounding areas and leave the work area clean and ready for the subsequent fire door installation.

Existing Services

• The void contains a significant volume of existing cables and services.
• Careful working around all existing services is essential.
• Services may remain live during the works.
• Existing cables and services must be protected from damage.
• Any required temporary isolation will be coordinated prior to the works.

Occupied Building

• The building will remain occupied by residents during the works.
• Work must be undertaken with minimal disruption to residents.
• Appropriate dust and noise control measures are required.
• Communal areas and resident access routes must be protected.
• The work area must be safely segregated and kept clean and tidy.
• Access and escape routes must remain clear at all times.

Fire Safety
All blockwork and associated works must maintain the required fire-resisting construction.

Fire-stopping around service penetrations must be completed using suitable tested and approved systems and installed in accordance with the relevant manufacturer's requirements.

Qualifications & Experience
The bricklayer must have:

• Valid CSCS card appropriate to the role.
• NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Brickwork/Masonry.
• Proven experience in brickwork and blockwork.
• Experience with lintel installation and remedial masonry works.
• Experience working within occupied residential buildings.
• Ability to work safely around existing live services.
• Good understanding of fire-rated construction.
• Ability to work safely, cleanly and with minimal disruption.
