Building Surveyor

We are working with an established property consultancy who are looking to appoint a Building Surveyor to join their Manchester team.
This is a great opportunity for someone looking to develop their career within a varied role covering building surveying, design, specifications and contract administration, with a strong focus on residential projects.
The business is open to candidates from a range of backgrounds, so previous consultancy experience is not essential. Candidates who have gained their experience working client side, for a local authority, housing association, NHS or other public-sector organisation will also be considered.
The Role
You will be involved in a broad range of professional and project based Building Surveying work, including:
- Building and condition surveys
- Defect diagnosis and technical advice
- Preparing detailed specifications and schedules of work
- Design development and design coordination
- Producing and reviewing drawings and technical information
- Preparing scopes of work and tender documentation
- Contract administration from inception through to completion
- Working with JCT contracts and administering works on behalf of clients
- Site inspections and monitoring contractor progress
- Managing variations, valuations and project documentation
- Planned maintenance and refurbishment programmes
- Project management of building works
- Liaising with clients, contractors and other professional consultants
- Ensuring projects are delivered to the required quality, programme and budget
The role will have a particular focus on residential property, with opportunities to work across refurbishment, maintenance and improvement projects.
About You
We are looking for a technically strong Building Surveyor who enjoys getting involved in both the professional surveying and project delivery side of the role.
You will ideally have:
- Experience with contract administration, ideally JCT
- Strong experience preparing specifications, schedules and scopes of work
- Experience with design development or design coordination
- Experience delivering refurbishment, maintenance or improvement projects
- Strong technical report writing skills
- Good knowledge of building construction and defects
- The ability to manage projects and instructions independently
- Strong client and contractor communication skills
MRICS is desirable but not essential, and support will be provided to achieve chartership status.
