Conrad Consulting is delighted to be working with a well-established claims management and loss adjusting business seeking an experienced Building Surveyor to join its growing Surveying Services division.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Building Surveyor to take on a varied role combining property inspections, building damage assessments, cost estimates and the management of repair works across domestic and commercial properties.

Working from home, you will travel to properties to investigate damage, prepare technical reports and provide expert surveying advice to support the insurance claims process. You will work closely with loss adjusters, claims handlers, policyholders and other stakeholders to ensure accurate assessments and effective claim resolutions.

The Role

As a Building Surveyor, your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out on-site surveys and inspections of domestic and commercial properties to assess damage and identify its cause.
  • Evaluating the extent of building damage and preparing repair cost estimates and budget replacement costs.
  • Producing detailed technical reports, including findings, recommendations and schedules of remedial works.
  • Preparing specifications, schedules of work and tender documentation, alongside tender analysis and contract administration.
  • Undertaking pre- and post-contract duties associated with property repair projects.
  • Working alongside loss adjusters, insurance claims handlers and other professionals to provide technical advice throughout the claims process.
  • Investigating the circumstances of property damage and recommending appropriate repair solutions.
  • Reviewing repair invoices, third-party schedules of work and negotiating claim settlements where required.
  • Undertaking schedules of reduction and assisting with the resolution of disputed repair costs.
  • Acting as Principal Designer under the CDM Regulations 2015 and undertaking Party Wall Surveyor duties where required.
  • Maintaining accurate inspection records and providing clear, professional advice to policyholders and other stakeholders.
About You

To be considered for this Building Surveyor opportunity, you should have:

  • Experience working as a Building Surveyor, ideally within insurance, claims management or loss adjusting.
  • Experience surveying both domestic and commercial properties.
  • A strong understanding of building construction, materials, defects and property repair techniques.
  • Experience preparing technical reports, repair specifications and cost estimates.
  • Knowledge of contract administration, tendering and managing building repair works.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Confident communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with clients, policyholders and industry professionals.
  • The ability to work independently, manage a varied workload and meet deadlines and service targets.
  • A relevant degree or equivalent practical surveying experience.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to properties across the region.

Candidates holding MRICS, MCIOB or equivalent professional qualifications would be welcomed, although applications from non-chartered Building Surveyors and APC candidates will also be considered.

Salary & Benefits

The successful Building Surveyor will receive a competitive package, including:

  • Salary up to £50,000, depending on experience.
  • Discretionary company bonus.
  • Quarterly incentive scheme.
  • Company car or car allowance.
  • 25 days' annual leave, plus an additional day for your birthday.
  • 5% contributory pension.
  • Private healthcare and death-in-service cover.
  • Enhanced family and sick pay provisions.
  • Electric vehicle scheme, subject to eligibility.
