About the Role
We are currently seeking an experienced Building Surveyor to join a six-month winter programme covering North and North West Cumbria, with the role extending from Whitehaven through to Carlisle.
The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out residential property surveys, primarily focusing on void properties and damp and mould inspections. The role will involve regular site visits to residential properties, followed by accurate reporting and logging of survey findings from home.
This is a hands-on surveying role suited to someone with strong residential building knowledge, excellent attention to detail and the ability to work independently across a large geographical area.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out residential building surveys across North and North West Cumbria.
- Undertake void property inspections and condition surveys.
- Complete detailed damp and mould surveys, identifying potential causes and areas requiring remedial works.
- Assess the condition of building fabric, including walls, roofs, floors, windows, doors and other key elements.
- Identify defects, maintenance requirements and potential underlying causes.
- Take photographs and accurately record survey findings on site.
- Produce clear and concise survey reports following each inspection.
- Log and manage survey data accurately from a home-based working environment.
- Provide recommendations for remedial works where appropriate.
- Manage a daily schedule of property visits efficiently.
- Liaise professionally with clients, tenants, contractors and other relevant parties when required.
- Maintain high standards of health and safety while working on residential properties.
About You
We are looking for a Building Surveyor who has:
- Previous experience in residential building surveying.
- Good knowledge and understanding of damp, mould, condensation and building defects.
- Experience surveying void or occupied residential properties.
- The ability to identify defects and understand their likely causes.
- Excellent report-writing and record-keeping skills.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to data collection.
- The ability to work independently and manage your own daily workload.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, as extensive travel throughout Cumbria will be required.
Relevant surveying qualifications such as HNC/HND, BSc or equivalent are desirable, along with membership of a professional surveying or building-related organisation.
The Working Area
The role will cover North and North West Cumbria, with properties located across the region from:
Whitehaven → Workington → Maryport → Cockermouth → Wigton → Carlisle
You should therefore be comfortable with regular travel throughout the area.
Working Arrangements
The position will involve:
5 days per week carrying out residential site visits, with survey reporting, administration and data logging completed from home.
The initial programme will run for approximately 6 months over the winter period, making this an ideal opportunity for an experienced Building Surveyor looking for a focused contract role.
