Main Purpose of Role:

A livestock role to provide all aspects of young bull rearing, welfare, safety and biosecurity for new entrant dairy & beef bulls joining the Cogent sire herds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Must be livestock free and biosecurity conscious to ensure the protocols are followed within the CBL livestock locations.
  • Handle livestock safely and take responsibility for the daily care and welfare of all rearing livestock, including cleaning, feeding, watering and maintaining a clean, healthy environment.
  • Join the EU Stud team on rotation to complete day-to-day tasks, including bull handling, assisting with semen collection and supporting the daily care of CBL livestock needed to meet business requirements.
  • Perform duties with excellent stockmanship, remaining alert for signals of ill health and monitoring feed intakes and DLWG for entry unit livestock.
  • Be involved in the organisation of the health testing and movements of new breeding bulls from partner & satellite herds into the Cogent facilities.
  • Responsible for transportation of all new entry bulls using company vehicles.
  • Administer veterinary and livestock paperwork as required to ensure statutory and regulatory records are maintained for holding movements, medicines and treatments and AI licences.
  • Complete general site duties as necessary to ensure CBL locations are safe, well-maintained and hygienic environments for staff and livestock.
  • To ensure full compliance with the regulatory and statutory requirements for all Company bulls.
  • Adhere to all CBL health and safety procedures and routine auditable checks.

Essential Skills:

  • A hardworking individual committed to achieving shared team goals.
  • Good organisational skills to lead themselves in an efficient dayto-day routine.
  • Meticulous on detail and timely completion of tasks.
  • Prior experience of rearing young stock and excellent animal husbandry skills.
  • Must be livestock clean.
  • Experience in livestock haulage and holds a Livestock Transport Type 1 Authorisation would be advantageous but full training can be given.
