Role Overview:
The Business Development Director will be responsible for defining, leading, and executing our clients growth strategy across the UK power in line with set business plan.

The successful candidate will join the UK senior team. The individual will have full responsibility on driving sales in line with set budget and targets. Proactively engaging with clients to align and deliver the requirements.

The role requires an established industry leader with the ability to originate, shape, and close complex, high-value opportunities, while influencing company strategy and positioning our client as a preferred consultancy partner in the UK market.

Salary:
£80,000-£100,000 per annum plus minimum 10% bonus.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Delivering the set budget
Manage and support the tendering process
Build the sales team, ensure all market trends and changes are captured
Attend and represent our client at relevant conferences, social media and market events Responsible for managing and building the solid pipeline Strategic Leadership & Growth Define and deliver the Business Development Strategy aligned with their 3–5 year growth plan.
Own annual revenue targets, order intake, and pipeline development.
Identify and secure framework agreements, strategic partnerships, and long-term contracts.
Provide market intelligence and strategic recommendations to the Board.
Contribute to overall company strategy, positioning, and service offering evolution.
Market Development & Client Acquisition
Develop and maintain senior-level relationships (C-suite, Directors, Heads) across: DNOs / IDNOs, ICPs, EPC contractors, Renewable developers (BESS, Solar, Wind)
Lead engagement from early-stage opportunity identification to contract award.
Develop and manage relationships with key clients and others.
Position our client in target frameworks, alliances, and major infrastructure programmes.
Expand our clients presence across UK energy transition and net-zero programmes. Opportunity Origination & Deal Leadership
Own the full commercial lifecycle: Lead generation, Qualification, Solution development, Commercial structuring, Negotiation and close
Lead multi-disciplinary bid teams for complex tenders and frameworks.
Structure commercial models, pricing strategies, and risk positions.
Drive conversion of pipeline into secured revenue and margin.
Collaborate with MD/Chairman to establish commercial strategies, pricing models, and partnership frameworks. Frameworks, Bids & Commercial Excellence
Define and lead bid strategy and positioning for key opportunities and frameworks. Provide strategic direction and commercial input into major bids and framework submissions.
Lead client engagement and negotiation throughout the bid lifecycle.
Ensure alignment of bids with commercial objectives, risk appetite, and margin targets. Work closely with engineering and commercial teams to shape winning solutions.
Drive improvement in win rates, pipeline quality, and strategic targeting. Brand, Market Position & Thought Leadership
Represent our client as a senior ambassador at industry events, conferences, and forums. Build market visibility, brand positioning, and credibility.
Strengthen relationships with: Strategic partners, Industry bodies, Key stakeholders, Social & digital media interactions Pipeline, Forecasting & Governance
Maintain a robust, data-driven pipeline aligned with growth targets.
Deliver accurate forecasting (order intake, revenue, margin).
Report to Board on: Pipeline health, Win/loss analysis, Market trends
Ensure effective use of CRM and reporting systems.
Provide monthly business development reports summarising opportunities, bids, wins/losses, and forecasts.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor’s degree in: Engineering (Electrical / Power preferred), or Business / Commercial discipline
Master’s degree (MBA or equivalent) – DESIRABLE

Experience:
Minimum 8-10 years of experience in business development or commercial roles within the engineering, utilities, or energy infrastructure sectors and proven track record for achieving and over-achieving annual sales targets.

Industry Knowledge:
Strong understanding of UK DNO/ICP frameworks, NEC contracts, and renewable energy projects.

Skills:
Strong client relationship and stakeholder management skills.
Excellent negotiation and presentational skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication.
Proficient in MS Office, CRM tools, and LinkedIn networking.
Commercially astute with the ability to analyse financial data and tender documents. Strategic thinking with strong commercial acumen
Proven ability to originate and close complex deals Executive-level stakeholder management and influence
Advanced negotiation and commercial structuring skills
Strong financial awareness: Revenue modelling, Margin optimisation, Pricing strategies
Excellent communication and presentation skills
High level of autonomy, resilience, and accountability
Willing to travel across the country or abroad as required.
