A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Materials Buyer to join a well-established specialist brickwork contractor based in the Chigwell/Essex area.
Due to ongoing growth and a strong pipeline of secured projects, the company is looking to strengthen its procurement team with an individual who has a strong understanding of brickwork, masonry materials and the supply chain that supports large-scale construction projects.
This role will be instrumental in ensuring materials are procured competitively, delivered on time and managed effectively across multiple sites. The successful candidate will become a key part of the business and play an important role in supporting project delivery from pre-construction through to completion.
The Role
- Procuring brickwork and associated construction materials for multiple live projects
- Obtaining competitive quotations and negotiating with suppliers
- Raising and managing purchase orders
- Coordinating deliveries to meet project programmes and site requirements
- Building and maintaining relationships with brick, block and construction material suppliers
- Monitoring material costs and identifying value engineering opportunities
- Working closely with commercial, operational and site teams
- Managing stock levels and lead times to avoid programme delays
- Resolving supply chain issues and sourcing alternative materials when necessary
- Maintaining accurate procurement records and reporting information
- Previous experience as a Materials Buyer, Construction Buyer or Assistant Buyer
- A strong background in brickwork, masonry or specialist subcontracting
- Good knowledge of bricks, blocks, mortar and associated construction materials
- Experience working within the construction industry
- Strong negotiation and supplier management skills
- Good commercial awareness and cost control knowledge
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- A proactive and solutions-focused approach
- £40,000 - £50,000 salary
