An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Buyer to join a large and complex organisation. This role plays a key part in delivering procurement strategies, achieving cost efficiencies, and ensuring effective contract management across a diverse range of goods and services. The successful candidate will work closely with internal stakeholders and suppliers to deliver value for money, support operational requirements, and ensure compliance with procurement regulations and organisational policies.

Your new role

  • Manage end-to-end procurement activity, ensuring purchasing requirements are delivered within agreed timescales.
  • Lead procurement projects including tendering exercises, supplier negotiations, contract implementation and review.
  • Produce and manage tenders, quotations and procurement documentation in line with organisational policies and procurement regulations.
  • Analyse spend data, purchasing trends and supplier performance to identify savings opportunities and improve contract utilisation.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders to support business objectives.
  • Monitor contract performance, ensuring compliance and taking corrective action where required.
  • Support strategic sourcing initiatives and contribute to procurement work plans and long-term contract strategies.
  • Coordinate procurement activity relating to capital projects and major organisational initiatives.
  • Prepare procurement reports, management information and recommendations for senior stakeholders.
  • Provide advice and guidance to budget holders on procurement best practice, purchasing routes and cost implications.
  • Support contract renewals and ensure appropriate contract coverage across assigned categories.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, supplier engagement activities and sustainability objectives.
  • Participate in meetings and project groups, providing procurement expertise and commercial guidance.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, governance requirements and procurement procedures.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Previous experience in a procurement, purchasing or buying role.
  • Strong purchasing and contract management experience.
  • Experience managing procurement projects and tender exercises.
  • Sound commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to analyse complex purchasing and financial data.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience producing reports and presenting recommendations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and procurement systems.
  • Able to work independently and use initiative.
  • CIPS Level 3 qualification (or working towards) or equivalent procurement experience and knowledge.

Desirable

  • Experience within a large, complex or public sector organisation.
  • Previous supervisory or people management experience.
  • Knowledge of procurement regulations and governance frameworks.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience of strategic sourcing and category management methodologies.
