Buyer
Level Up Recruitment
We’re recruiting for an experienced Buyer to join a well-established and growing business operating within the fresh food sector.
This is a fast-paced, commercially focused buying role where you’ll work closely with Sales, National Accounts and the wider leadership team, taking responsibility for purchasing, pricing, forecasting and stock management.
Working within a fresh, short shelf-life environment means no two days are quite the same. Prices, availability and customer demand can move quickly, so we’re looking for someone who is commercially sharp, confident making decisions and comfortable working at pace.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for:
- Buying fresh fish and seafood in line with customer demand and forecasts.
- Negotiating with suppliers around price, availability and volumes.
- Managing stock levels and balancing availability against waste and commercial exposure.
- Monitoring market conditions, pricing movements and supply.
- Working closely with the Sales team to provide pricing and availability and help facilitate sales opportunities.
- Supporting National Account requirements and ensuring customer commitments can be fulfilled.
- Forecasting demand using sales information, customer requirements and market trends.
- Identifying opportunities to maximise sales and margin from available stock.
- Coordinating morning meetings with the leadership team, providing updates around stock, pricing, availability and any key issues or opportunities.
- Maintaining regular communication with suppliers and internal teams throughout the trading day via phone, email and WhatsApp.
About You
We’re looking for someone with previous buying experience gained within a fast-paced commercial environment.
Experience buying fresh fish or seafood would be highly advantageous, although we would also be interested in speaking to Buyers from fresh produce, meat, chilled food, foodservice or other short shelf-life categories.
You’ll need to be:
- Commercially astute with strong negotiation skills.
- Confident working with pricing, margin, stock and forecasts.
- Comfortable making quick decisions in a fast-moving environment.
- A strong communicator who enjoys working closely with sales and operational teams.
- Organised and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Proactive, resilient and solutions-focused.
- Comfortable building strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
The Package
Basic salary: Up to £40,000
Bonus: Additional performance-related bonus
Hours: Monday to Friday, 5:00am – 1:00pm
Location: Fleetwood, Lancashire
The early working pattern means you’ll finish at 1pm each day, with no weekend working.
