Job Title: Buyer

Location: Wellington, Somerset

Salary: Up to £36K DOE

Hours: Monday to Thursday 8am - 4.15pm, Friday 8am - 3pm

About the Role:

The Buyer is responsible for supporting the sourcing and procurement of goods, materials and services to ensure business requirements are met in accordance with agreed cost, quality, delivery and compliance objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor demand within the MRP system review shortages and procure materials required to meet production and project requirements.
  • Process internal requisitions and take ownership from quotation through to delivery.
  • Raise accurate purchase orders, ensuring all technical documentation and drawings are included where applicable.
  • Verify supplier order acknowledgements and confirmations against purchase order requirements, resolving any discrepancies.
  • Manage daily replenishment activities and maintain agreed stock levels.
  • Act as the primary purchasing contact for assigned suppliers and commodities, including commercial off-the-shelf products (COTS), IT hardware, consumables and indirect spend categories as directed by the Purchasing Manager.
  • Develop strong working relationships with suppliers to improve service, responsiveness and overall value.
  • Participate in supplier review meetings and support agreed supplier improvement actions.
  • Contribute to cost reduction, value engineering and continuous improvement initiatives across the supply chain.
  • Complete supplier onboarding activities in accordance with company procedures.
  • Maintain supplier compliance records, certifications and approvals, ensuring documentation remains current.
  • Assist with periodic tendering and review of recurring service contracts and indirect expenditure.
  • Support Production Planning and Production teams in assessing make-versus-buy decisions.
  • Provide regular updates to internal stakeholders regarding order status, delivery risks and supply issues.

About You:

Essential

  • Previous purchasing, procurement or supply chain experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems for purchasing and material control.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Desirable

  • CIPS qualification or willingness to study towards CIPS.
  • Experience of supplier onboarding and compliance activities.
  • Understanding of supplier performance measurement and continuous improvement techniques.
