The Opportunity
We are recruiting an experienced Cable Harness Assembler / Electrical Wireperson to manufacture and inspect high-reliability cable harnesses, wiring looms and electro-mechanical assemblies for defence, aerospace and other mission-critical applications. Working from detailed engineering drawings, wiring schedules, build instructions and customer specifications, you will produce assemblies to exacting standards of quality and workmanship. This position would suit an experienced cable assembler or electrical wireperson with strong practical skills in crimping, soldering, cable preparation and connector assembly.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble and terminate cable harnesses, wiring looms and electro-mechanical assemblies.
- Work accurately from engineering drawings, electrical schematics, wiring schedules and manufacturing instructions.
- Prepare wires and cables using approved cutting, stripping and preparation techniques.
- Carry out crimping, soldering, connector assembly, lacing, bundling and harness dressing.
- Install heat-shrink tubing, backshells, strain reliefs, shielding and identification markers.
- Use manual and calibrated crimping tools, soldering stations and specialist connector tooling.
- Conduct in-process self-inspection and verify the quality of completed assemblies.
- Perform continuity, insulation-resistance and functional electrical testing using approved equipment.
- Maintain full product traceability and accurately complete manufacturing and quality records.
- Identify and report non-conformances, supporting corrective-action activities where required.
- Follow all relevant health, safety, quality and manufacturing procedures.
- Previous experience as a Cable Harness Assembler, Electrical Wireperson, Cable Assembler or Electrical Assembler.
- Practical experience of cable preparation, crimping, soldering and connector assembly.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, wiring schedules and build instructions.
- Experience using cable-preparation tools, calibrated crimping equipment and electrical test equipment.
- Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality and workmanship.
- Ability to follow detailed manufacturing processes and customer specifications accurately.
- A methodical, reliable and safety-conscious approach.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider manufacturing team.
- IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification or experience working to this standard.
- J-STD-001 certification or experience producing soldered electrical and electronic assemblies.
- Previous experience within defence, aerospace, naval or another high-reliability manufacturing environment.
- Experience working to military or customer-specific manufacturing standards.
- Experience working within a security-cleared environment.
