We are seeking a proactive and technically skilled Energy & Carbon Advisor / Carbon Engineer to support the delivery of decarbonisation, energy efficiency, and carbon management initiatives across Colas UK’s business units, contracts, and manufacturing operations. Reporting to the Environmental Manager and working alongside the ESG Performance and Data & Digital Teams, you will collaborate with operational teams, clients, bid teams, and sustainability experts. Your role will be key in driving carbon reduction, improving environmental performance, and supporting the transition to a low‑carbon future through expertise in carbon accounting, whole‑life carbon assessment, PAS 2080 implementation, energy performance, and sustainability reporting.

Main Responsibilities

You will support Colas’ carbon and sustainability goals by working closely with operational teams to collect, analyse, and report carbon and environmental data, while identifying opportunities for improvement. Assisting with lifecycle carbon assessments and PAS 2080 implementation across projects is a core part of your role, alongside developing carbon management plans and reduction roadmaps.

Data management and reporting are central to this position. You will collect, validate, and analyse carbon and energy data, maintain accurate reporting aligned with business and client needs, and create dashboards and tools using Excel and Power BI. Timely data submission and trend analysis will inform recommendations to enhance performance. You will also help maintain carbon baselines and key metrics.

Stakeholder engagement includes working with contract teams, colleagues across Colas Group, and supply chain partners to improve data quality and sustainability outcomes. You will provide guidance on carbon matters, support client reporting and meetings, and deliver training sessions to embed sustainability principles.

You will assist bid teams by providing sustainability information to support tenders and contribute to innovation projects focused on decarbonisation, helping develop case studies to share best practice across the organisation.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge in carbon accounting, whole-life carbon assessment, and energy performance, with familiarity in PAS 2080 and greenhouse gas reporting. Excellent data skills, including experience with Excel and Power BI, and the ability to analyse and manage environmental data are essential.

Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills are required to work effectively with various teams and partners. You should be able to translate technical data into practical recommendations and support implementation on contracts and operations.

An organised, self-motivated approach is important to manage competing priorities, including reporting, assessments, training, and bid support. Relevant qualifications in sustainability, energy, environmental management, or related fields are preferred, along with experience in operational, construction, or engineering environments.

If you are motivated to make a tangible impact on carbon reduction and sustainability within a leading infrastructure and manufacturing organisation, we encourage you to apply and join our team.
