Caretaker

Start Date: End of August 2026 (ready for the new academic year)
Contract: until the end of the academic year 
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 3:00pm

The Supply Register is recruiting on behalf of a welcoming secondary school in Hodge Hill for an experienced School Caretaker to join the site team from the end of August.

We're looking for someone who has previous site management or caretaking experience, ideally within a school environment. You will play a key role in ensuring the school site is safe, secure, clean and well-maintained for pupils, staff and visitors.

• Opening and locking the school as required, including key holding responsibilities.
• Ensuring the security of the school site throughout the day.
• Carrying out routine maintenance and minor repairs, including painting, decorating, basic plumbing and changing light fittings.
• General upkeep of the school buildings and grounds, ensuring a clean, safe and tidy environment.
• Emptying bins, litter picking and supporting with general cleaning duties where required.
• Setting up classrooms, halls and other areas for meetings and school events.
• Moving furniture, equipment and deliveries around the site.
• Monitoring site health and safety, reporting and dealing with any hazards promptly.
• Liaising with and supervising contractors working on site.
• Working closely with the school leadership team to ensure the premises are maintained to a high standard.

• Previous experience in a Site Manager, Caretaker or Premises Assistant role is essential.
• Previous school experience is desirable but not essential.
• Confident carrying out basic maintenance and DIY tasks.
• Reliable, proactive and able to work independently.
• A commitment to safeguarding and maintaining a safe school environment.
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
• Two satisfactory references covering the last two years of employment.
• The right to work in the UK.
