About the Role

A welcoming school in WD6 is seeking a reliable and proactive School Caretaker / Maintenance Assistant to join their site team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous school caretaking or maintenance experience who takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean, and well-presented learning environment.

Working closely with the Site Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of the school premises, ensuring the site remains safe, secure, and fully operational for pupils, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out daily opening and closing of the school site where required
  • Complete routine maintenance, repairs, and basic DIY tasks
  • Undertake regular health and safety checks across the premises
  • Ensure classrooms, corridors, playgrounds, and outdoor areas are safe and well-maintained
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff
  • Set up rooms and equipment for school events and activities
  • Monitor site security and report any faults or hazards
  • Support contractors on site and maintain compliance records
  • Assist with general cleaning duties when required
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety across the school

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Previous experience working as a School Caretaker or School Maintenance Assistant
  • Good practical DIY and maintenance skills
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
  • Reliable, organised, and proactive approach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Right to Work in the UK

Desirable:

  • Experience working within a primary, secondary, or SEN school
  • Knowledge of COSHH and premises compliance
  • Basic plumbing, decorating, or electrical maintenance experience
  • First Aid qualification
