Band 2 - £12.71 per hour Monday– Friday
£17.64 per hour on Saturdays and £22.90 on Sundays
Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust are looking for dedicated and experienced Catering Assistants to join the NHS Professionals Bank Scheme, providing flexible cover within the Trust’s Catering Services Team when required.
You’ll work as part of a friendly team across the wards and retail outlets at Torbay Hospital, helping to provide nutritious and appetising meals tailored to patients’ dietary requirements.
This is a great opportunity to make a real difference while enjoying the flexibility of Bank work. The role is physically demanding, with long periods spent on your feet, so you’ll need to be reliable, adaptable and comfortable working in a busy environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing and serving food and beverages
- Supporting patient meal preparation and ward catering
- Providing friendly customer service in cafés and retail areas
- Operating electronic tills and handling cash when required
- Preparing ward trolleys and delivering meals and provisions to wards
- Supporting hospitality, buffets and vending services
- Receiving, storing and picking catering supplies
- Cleaning catering equipment, crockery and utensils
- Following food safety, hygiene and HACCP procedures
- Following dietary, allergy, ethical and cultural requirements
- Working as part of a team to ensure patients, staff and visitors receive an excellent service
About you
- Physically fit – able to work on your feet for long periods
- Previous experience in a catering or hospitality essential
- Previous experience working in a healthcare setting is desirable but not essential
- A passion for providing excellent customer service and patient care
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team
- An understanding of food hygiene and health & safety regulations (training provided)
- A compassionate and friendly approach towards patients
- Willing to learn new skills and complete required training
