The Barn at Severn and Wye Smokery Ltd is looking for talented and passionate Chefs of all levels to join our 2 AA Rosette kitchen team.

Set in the heart of the enchanting Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, The Barn is a beautifully classic yet stylish and relaxed dining destination, combining exceptional food with warm, unpretentious hospitality.

We are more than just a restaurant. Our venue also includes a food hall, café and a gift shop, showcasing some of the very best shellfish and seafood the UK has to offer.

From freshly shucked oysters and tender octopus to succulent lobster and our famous smoked salmon, our à la carte menu celebrates outstanding British seafood, exceptional produce and carefully crafted dishes.

We are now looking for Chefs with previous fine dining or high-end restaurant experience who want to become part of an ambitious kitchen team committed to maintaining and developing our 2 AA Rosette standards.

Whether you are an experienced Sous Chef, an established Chef de Partie, or a developing Commis Chef ready for your next challenge, we would love to hear from you.

The Role

Depending on your experience and level, your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing, cooking and presenting dishes to consistently high standards.
  • Working with premium fresh fish, shellfish and other high-quality seasonal ingredients.
  • Maintaining the standards expected within a 2 AA Rosette kitchen.
  • Taking pride in presentation, flavour, consistency and attention to detail.
  • Preparing and managing your section efficiently for service.
  • Working closely with the Head Chef and wider brigade to deliver smooth, professional services.
  • Contributing ideas towards new dishes, seasonal menus and the continued development of our food offering.
  • Maintaining excellent standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and kitchen organisation.
  • Supporting stock control, waste reduction and effective use of ingredients.
  • Training and supporting junior members of the team where appropriate to your position.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for Chefs who are genuinely passionate about their craft and understand the standards required within a quality-led kitchen.

Previous experience within a fine dining, AA Rosette, Michelin-level or comparable high-end restaurant environment is essential.

You will ideally:

  • Have strong culinary skills appropriate to your current level.
  • Have experience working within a fine dining or high-quality professional kitchen.
  • Take genuine pride in the quality and presentation of every dish you produce.
  • Have excellent attention to detail and a strong understanding of consistency.
  • Be confident working within a busy, organised and professional kitchen environment.
  • Have a good understanding of food hygiene, allergens and kitchen safety.
  • Be reliable, organised and able to remain composed during demanding services.
  • Enjoy working as part of a professional, supportive brigade.
  • Be enthusiastic about learning, improving and developing your culinary skills.
  • Have a genuine interest in working with outstanding seafood and fresh produce.

Experience working specifically with fish and shellfish would be highly desirable, although we are equally interested in excellent Chefs who have the right fine dining background and are keen to develop their seafood knowledge.

For our more senior positions, we are also looking for Chefs with strong leadership skills who can support, motivate and develop other members of the brigade while helping to maintain consistently high kitchen standards.

Salary and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary of £30,000 – £44,000 per annum, depending on the level of appointment, experience and skills, PLUS TIPS.
