We are working with major UK engineering and technical services organisation who are undergoing a significant business and technology transformation.

Having grown through acquisition, the organisation operates across multiple business units with diverse systems, suppliers, processes and ways of working. As part of a wider transformation strategy, the business is investing heavily in creating a more joined up, scalable and efficient technology function that can support future growth, operational excellence and continued integration.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced technology transformation leader to help shape and build the future operating model of a complex, federated organisation.

The Opportunity

Reporting into the CIO, the Chief of Staff will be responsible for driving consistency, governance, capability, enablement and operational excellence across the Group Technology function.

This role sits at the heart of a multi-year transformation programme focused on creating a more connected and effective technology organisation. You will help define how technology operates across the group, establishing the frameworks, processes and governance needed to bring alignment across multiple business units while respecting local operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and implement the IT Target Operating Model across the organisation
  • Develop common governance frameworks, standards and ways of working
  • Establish technology playbooks, operating procedures and performance frameworks
  • Create capability models, role definitions and organisational structures
  • Build KPI scorecards, reporting frameworks and measures of success
  • Drive consistency and alignment across architecture, infrastructure, cyber, applications and service management functions
  • Lead rationalisation and standardisation initiatives across technology services
  • Improve supplier governance, performance management and commercial effectiveness
  • Support sourcing strategies, managed service models and vendor optimisation initiatives
  • Partner with Finance, Procurement, HR and business leadership teams to drive organisational effectiveness
  • Embed a culture of continuous improvement, operational excellence and data-driven decision making

What We're Looking For

We are particularly interested in candidates who have operated within federated, multi-business unit or acquisition-led organisations, where success depends on creating alignment without removing local accountability.

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience designing and implementing IT Target Operating Models
  • Experience creating governance frameworks, playbooks and technology standards
  • Strong understanding of organisational design, capability development and performance management
  • Track record of delivering technology transformation within complex enterprise environments
  • Experience navigating matrix organisations with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities
  • Strong executive stakeholder management and influencing skills
  • Ability to balance strategic planning with practical execution
