Children's Solicitor - Public Childcare & SEND
Location: Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire
Rate: £26.62 per hour
Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00 - 17:00 (37 hours per week)
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Solicitor to join a busy and supportive Legal Services team, providing specialist legal advice and representation in relation to public childcare law and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) matters.
This is an excellent opportunity for a legal professional who enjoys a varied caseload, early involvement in cases, collaborative working, and making a positive impact on outcomes for children and families.
The Role
You will manage a stimulating caseload covering public law childcare proceedings, SEND Tribunal work, advocacy, and advisory responsibilities. Working closely with Children's Social Care, Education Services, and other key stakeholders, you will provide high-quality legal support and representation across a range of complex matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide timely, practical, and high-quality legal advice to Children's Social Care and SEND services.
- Conduct public law childcare cases from commencement through to conclusion.
- Draft, prepare, and review court applications, tribunal documents, witness statements, and legal correspondence.
- Progress cases effectively, ensuring evidence is managed and presented to a high professional standard.
- Undertake advocacy on behalf of the Council in courts, tribunals, and other forums as required.
- Liaise with courts, Cafcass, external legal representatives, and multi-agency partners.
- Support the Legal Team Manager in the delivery of an efficient and cost-effective legal service.
- Contribute to service development, legal research, and the implementation of effective working practices.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Qualification as a Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive with relevant practising experience.
- Substantial experience in SEND Tribunal and education law (essential).
- Experience handling public law childcare matters and care proceedings.
- Strong advocacy, drafting, and case management skills.
- The ability to build effective working relationships with clients and stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving abilities.
- A commitment to delivering high-quality legal services and achieving positive outcomes.
