About the Role

We are currently recruiting School Support Workers to join a welcoming and supportive specialist SEND school in Bexley.

The school supports secondary-aged pupils with severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties, complex needs and physical disabilities. Many pupils require a high level of individualised support throughout the school day, so we are looking for patient, caring and reliable individuals who are confident providing both learning and personal care support.

This is a hands-on role and would particularly suit candidates with previous experience within SEND schools, healthcare, residential care, support work or complex-needs settings.



Key Responsibilities

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with complex SEND.
  • Supporting pupils with SLD, PMLD, physical disabilities and additional needs.
  • Assisting pupils to access learning and participate in classroom activities.
  • Supporting pupils with their communication, independence and social development.
  • Providing personal care, including toileting and changing where required.
  • Supporting pupils with mobility, moving and positioning in line with individual care plans and training.
  • Supporting pupils during break times, lunchtimes and activities throughout the school day.
  • Following individual education, behaviour, medical and care plans.
  • Working closely with teachers, therapists and other support staff.
  • Promoting pupils' safety, dignity, independence and wellbeing at all times.
  • Following the school's safeguarding procedures and maintaining professional boundaries.


The Ideal Candidate

We would love to hear from candidates who:

  • Have experience supporting children, young people or adults with additional or complex needs.
  • Have experience within SEND, healthcare, care, residential or support-work environments.
  • Are comfortable providing personal and intimate care where required.
  • Are patient, compassionate and able to remain calm in challenging situations.
  • Are comfortable working with pupils who may have limited or non-verbal communication.
  • Are physically able and willing to support pupils with mobility needs following appropriate training.
  • Can build positive and trusting relationships with vulnerable young people.
  • Are reliable, proactive and able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Experience with PMLD, SLD, Autism, complex medical needs, hoisting, manual handling, personal care or alternative communication methods would be highly desirable.
