Civil Engineer in Wigan, Greater Manchester

Have you completed your first year in civil engineering and are ready to take on more responsibility? This is an opportunity to develop your design experience within a growing consultancy, working on residential highways and drainage projects with support from experienced senior engineers.

REFA Consulting Engineers is looking for a Civil Engineer to join its Wigan team. You will take increasing ownership of design work while developing your technical knowledge and progressing towards professional qualification.

The Role

• Prepare detailed highways, external levels and plot drainage designs for residential developments.

• Carry out site appraisals, drainage feasibility studies and Flood Risk Assessments.

• Produce drainage calculations, drawings and technical reports.

• Prepare and progress Section 38 and Section 104 submissions through to technical approval.

• Liaise with highway authorities, water companies, LLFAs in England and SABs in Wales.

• Respond to approval-body and client comments and manage design changes.

• Coordinate with structural and geotechnical colleagues across the Group.

• Support graduate engineers and CAD technicians.

About You

• Degree in Civil Engineering (BEng, MEng or BSc), or equivalent.

• At least 12 months' civils design experience within a consultancy or developer environment.

• Working knowledge of highways and drainage design for residential schemes.

• Understanding of Section 38, Section 104 and SuDS principles.

• AutoCAD skills, with experience of Causeway Flow, PDS, Civil 3D or MicroDrainage.

• Strong analytical, communication and organisational skills.

• Working towards ICE professional qualification, with support available.
