HGV Class 1 Shunter Driver

Location: Tewkesbury
Salary: £42,646.97 per year + £20 weekly Driving Safety Bonus
Hours: 48 hours per week, 5 days over 7 (shifts are typically 11:00am – 9.00pm)

We are currently recruiting for a HGV Class 1 Shunter Driver on behalf of our client based in Tewkesbury.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established haulage operation in a key role, ensuring trailers are positioned correctly, vehicles are maintained to operational standards, and goods are prepared safely for transportation.

The Role

As a Shunter Driver, you will play a vital role in the day-to-day running of the transport operation. You will be responsible for moving trailers around the yard, carrying out vehicle checks, and ensuring all equipment is ready for loading and dispatch.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safe operation of yard shunter vehicles
  • Coupling and uncoupling trailers safely and efficiently
  • Loading and unloading vehicles when required
  • Reporting any vehicle or trailer damage
  • Conducting tyre inspections to ensure vehicle safety and legality
  • Checking refrigeration units and electrical cables are functioning correctly
  • Maintaining cleanliness of vehicle wash and refuelling areas
  • Collecting and returning vehicles for servicing and maintenance
  • Completing additional duties as required by the Fleet Logistics Manager
  • Adhering to all Health & Safety policies and procedures

RequirementsEssential

  • Valid HGV Class 1 (C+E) Licence
  • Full Driver CPC qualification
  • Digital Tachograph Card
  • Maximum of 6 penalty points (no DR, DD or IN endorsements)
  • Good understanding of Drivers' Hours regulations
  • Reliable, flexible and able to work within a busy transport environment
  • Minimum 3 months' Class 1 driving experience preferred

Desirable

  • Forklift Truck (FLT) Licence (training can be provided)
